Professional skills and experience

For over 40 years I have explored the world of visual arts, studying art history, different techniques, visiting museums and galleries in Finland and abroad. In my working life I was a human resources manager for an energy company for 20 years. I got myself a good job and a regular income from outside the arts, because in my youth the status of female artists in Finland was much worse than it is today.

Personal story

At the age of 50 I started to paint actively and in 2002 I held my first exhibition. The idea for holding the exhibition came about while traveling in Africa and the proceeds from the exhibition were used to promote sustainable development by supporting a Kenyan primary school. Since then I have held numerous exhibitions of my own and participated in many joint exhibitions. My goal is to live to be 100, so there is still plenty of time to be artist.

Color and style

I have come a long way in my work from representational to non-representational. I have changed from slow-drying oil paints to fast-drying acrylics. The change has brought a new kind of freedom and energy to my own expression. I love colors and they act as a strong visual element in my work. My style is simple and minimalistic. Each painting is born from a deep personal connection to the subject. Making art is a continuous journey towards the new.

Themes and messages

I draw inspiration for painting by following various phenomena in society in a diverse way, reading a lot, making observations about the environment and curiously exploring everything that happens in the world. Living life offers sources of inspiration when I have the patience to stop and be quiet. Movies, music, beautiful nature, different colors and shapes and lovely animals, especially cats, generate enthusiasm. New experiences related to travel also inspire me.
